Suzaku Brand from Ceramic Studio Rei

Suzaku (朱雀) is a Japanese name for Chinese phoenix, one of the Four Symbols in Chinese mythology. It symbolizes enernity and protects the South (one of the four corners of the world). It is an immortal flame-vermillion colored bird: it is said to burn itself with flames of burning branches after living 500 years and then be reborn from its own ashes. I chose this phoenix to symbolize our continuous effort toward high quality and creativity.

I make high-quality stoneware for domestic use, such as plates of various sizes and shapes, cups and bowls that are easy and safe to use (microwave-, oven- and dishwasher-safe as well) and of simple designs that accentuate foods served on them. I also make turquoise and other colored stoneware vases of various sizes, teracotta jars for garlic and doggy bisquits, and much more. On this webpage you will find several standard product lines, but I also make order-made ceramics according to your particular need and personalized cups/bowls, e.g., with the name of yourself or your beloved, which will make special gifts for birthdays, Christmas, and other special occasions.

My work is influenced by the culture of Japan, my home country, where I was born and educated as an artist. I am strongly interested in developing beautiful glazings and finding new and unique techqniques every single day: my works are thus positioned somewhere between crafts and fine art. I hope that my ceramics will add some warmth and fun to your everyday life.

Ceramic Studio Rei and Sakura

I moved to a house overlooking the lake in Suldrup, Denmark, in 2013, where I set up my ceramic studio. I live and work here enjoying the beautiful nature, with my husband and our companion dog Sakura (桜, Cherry Blossom in Japanese). She is the 3rd Keeshond in our family, who will welcome visitors to my studio with enthusiasm.
